Spare Room Becomes a Home Gym

Levis4Floors By Levis4Floors | September 19, 2012

If you find yourself with an extra room in your home, what do you do with it? If you are an empty nester or have more house than you need, you can turn that extra bedroom into a library, home office or even, a home gym.  Home gyms are a popular choice for extra bedrooms and finished basements.  These home gyms can end up saving you money in gym fees once you pay off the needed equipment.

A home gym can consist of a treadmill, elliptical, bike, or weight machine—or all of the above. Or it can be a place to do yoga.  With a game set and television you can dance or virtually play sports to get in your daily workout.  Free weights and jump ropes take up virtually zero space. Because of all of these options, starting with a blank slate is the easiest way to imagine your ideal home gym.

Deciding what kind of workout you’ll be doing will help you choose flooring and wall options. You might want the soft cushion of carpet or the smooth surface of hardwood or laminate flooring.  Hard surfaces would be easier to clean but might be too hard for the type of workout you like best.

Adding a large mirror or wall of mirrors is a good thing for a gym. You can check your yoga pose or make sure you have the right posture for lifting weights.  It will also make your home gym feel larger.

Once you have the home gym, all you have to do is walk down the hall to work out!
