Setting the Right Expectations for Your Next Remodel

Remodeling your home can be an exciting time! There are many decisions to be made, steps needed to stay organized and things to consider. We know that this can be an exciting time, but it can also be a stressful time without the proper expectations. We are here to help guide you through some of the potential issues that you can avoid!

1. Ask a Pro.

There is no shame in asking a professional for expert advice. Getting all of the information you’ll need upfront is essential for setting yourself up for a good experience. Hiring someone with experience and years of knowledge will prevent headaches from issues that inevitably will pop up.

2. Be Realistic

There’s nothing wrong with having high expectations. When it comes to remodeling your home, remember that it is done with natural materials and executed by humans. Just like life, things are not going to go exactly according to plan. Be prepared for things to not go according to plan and know that there are always other solutions, a plan B or other ways to still achieve the look and feel that you want. A plan is essential, but be realistic about things not going perfectly according to plan.

3. Expect Delays

In construction and remodeling, there are so many factors that can cause delays. Knowing this information upfront will keep you from being frustrated and disappointed in the long run. Right now there are supply chain issues that all areas of construction, design and remodeling that the whole country is having to deal with. Order your material with plenty of time to arrive before the scheduled installation date. Schedule your installation date with plenty of time for unexpected delays. More on this in tip 4.

4. Don’t plan a party around your remodel

Remember Murphy’s Law? If you want to test Murphy and absolutely guarantee with certainty that your remodeling project will have a delay or a catastrophic event – plan a party around the original proposed completion date. We aren’t kidding. We have seen customers order flooring that has been in stock at the manufacturing facility consistently for years that has been delivered on time and flawlessly for years and years be delayed by things you can’t make up because a wedding or party is planned too close to the installation date. Let’s start out on the right food by not testing Murphy’s Law.
