Levis4Floors By Levis4Floors | July 9, 2019

Carpet is an excellent addition for any home improvement project. Many homeowners do not have to purchase carpet more than a couple of times in their lifetime, and this leads to a lot of the confusion when purchasing carpet. All carpet is made differently and comes with several pros and cons. Learning these attributes can help better shop for the best carpet tailored for your home. To help, we listed out the different pros and cons you will want to consider when shopping for carpet. Let’s take a look!

PROS

Soft

Carpet can come in some very plush and comfy styles. With the proper padding, this can make carpet an excellent choice for young infants who are learning to walk. Carpet’s soft nature also makes a room more inviting. Imagine sitting on hardwood floors to play with a dog or reading a book by the fire. Carpet offers a much gentler feel, which can open up the atmosphere and the ground as a more welcoming environment.

A Large Number of Options

Some flooring options would be great if more designs and styles were available. However, have no fear of a shortage of styles with carpet! From the living room, commercial storefront, home office to bedrooms, carpet has a vast selection of styles, types, designs, and applications. You can get an elegant white rug for a bedroom or carpet square for a sales office. With different levels of durability, patterns, colors, and looks, carpet can fit any design theme.

Warm

Make a more welcoming atmosphere by adding carpet into the equation. From wall-to-wall carpet to area rugs, carpets create an inviting space. Plus, carpet adds a level of warmth to a room. Not only does carpet add a layer of insulation to the home, but it creates a soft, warm surface. You can walk, lay, or sit on your carpet and still feel comfortable. Padding can create really sway how comfortable a carpet feels, so make sure you do not buy the wrong padding.

CONS

Stains

It should come as no surprise that carpet fibers are more prone to stains than some of the competition flooring. Fibers are treated with stain resistant formulas to help prevent this, and some carpets go as far as having the fibers solution-dyed so that the flooring can be clean with bleach for very hard to remove stains. However, the longer a stain sits, the harder it can be to remove. If your room is prone to stains, carpet may not be the best choice.

Seams

Generally, carpet comes in twelve-foot rolls (with some very exceptional 13’1” or 15” pieces from select manufacturers). If your room is over twelve-feet, it will need a seam. Carpet is directional, so you may have a couple of cross seams in the room as well to prevent wasting product and help to save money. No seam is “invisible,” but with proper installation and a professional team, seams can be difficult to notice at a glance. Some carpets with a higher pile can hide seams better than others. You may want to consider where your seam may fall in the room when looking for the right carpet.

Wear

Carpet fibers all have different resilience levels. Think of this as how well they “bounce-back” or return to their natural fluffy state. When people walk through rooms in a repeated pattern, the carpet becomes matted-this can make general wear marks. Nylon carpet is very good at resisting wear patterns and may be the right choice if this concerns you.
