Modern Kids’ Rooms

Levis4Floors By Levis4Floors | September 26, 2012

Not every kid will be enchanted with fairy tales, robots and princesses. If your child is more about clean lines than fairy tales, you might want to consider a modern style décor for their room. Perhaps your own style tends more toward contemporary and modern than to classic children’s characters. In either case, there are modern style solutions for decorating your child’s nursery or bedroom that will please both discerning parents and children.

Modern style for kids is the same as it is for adults. Form and function are the focus of design. Lines are kept clean; ornament kept to a minimum. Shapes tend to be geometric, which is a nice thing for small children learning their shapes.  Colors can range from neutrals to brights and every combination in between. You may see modern kid’s rooms that use grey on the walls or floor—not your typical color for a kid’s room.  Grey works as a great neutral for a modern kid’s room as it works well with so many other colors; grey and red or grey and yellow are fantastic combinations.  You can add traditional boy blue and girl pink to a grey room to make it more masculine or feminine.

Modern designs on bedding or furniture for children are a growing design movement. Today you can find baby and children’s furniture, lighting and rugs that are pint size versions of modern classics. Vintage modern designs can fit with new modern rugs and lighting for a mid-century modern designed room for the littlest members of your family.
