How To Put On False Eyelashes

This may not be a skill you’ll need on a daily basis, but there’s a good possibility that at some point a special occasion will come up that merits some extra flutter and glamour! If you’ve always loved the look of “falsies” but been intimated by the prospect of applying them, here is your chance to discover that it’s not as hard as it looks. The most important thing you can do is to have patience. It’s tricky work, but if you take your time and don’t get flustered you’re sure to succeed. Ensure two things:  1.You have plenty of time to do the job. Leaving it to the last minute before you walk out the door never ends up well. 2. Practice ahead of time. Buy more than one set of lashes and learn to perfect it before the day of you big event. On the other hand, if you just KNOW you’ll love them as soon as you figure out the secret, buy lots of them because they are addicting!

Supplies:

False Eyelashes – Avoid celebrity brands and major over the counter cosmetics brands. They are nearly always too heavy and inflexible because they don’t specialize in lashes. You need lashes that are lightweight like your natural ones, and easily bent and formed to the shape of your eye. You can find these in major drugstores or specialty cosmetics stores.

Eyelash Glue – The glue sample that comes with the lashes isn’t ideal. You can now find over the counter adhesive that was originally intended for surgical procedures but is now manufactured specifically for false eyelashes.

Tiny Scissors – It is rare that a set of lashes is the exact size of your eyelid.

How To:

Remove one lash set from the package. Do so slowly or you’ll bend them out of shape by tugging too hard. Bend the lash around your finger to cause it to curve. Hold it like that for 30 seconds. Line it up with your natural lashes to see if it needs to be trimmed to fit, and then do so.

Run a thin bead of glue along the base of the falsie. Don’t overdo it or they’ll come off later when the glue warms after wearing them for awhile. Blow gently on the glue. It should be tacky rather than wet. This makes a huge difference!

Guide the falsie behind your natural lash and lower into place near the center. The gently tap one side into place, and then the other side. You’ll be able to readjust them before the glue dries so feel free to slide them around a little until you’re satisfied. Then, quickly, before the glue dries, use a fuzz-free q-tip to wipe away any excess glue above the base of the lash.

Repeat on the other side.

Voila! You’ll be shooting movie-star stares all night!
