Design Inspiration: English Drawing Room

Levis4Floors By Levis4Floors | October 17, 2012

A classic English drawing room doesn’t exist in most American homes. The home office could be turned into an English style drawing room that still functions as an office, but with classic English style.  Part library, part living room, the drawing room is an intimate room that is perfect for solo activities like reading or small gatherings of family or friends.  For these reasons, this look translates well for a home office that is also used as a den.

This drawing room is beautifully decorated with traditional design elements.  The tall window allows the natural light to fill this intimate room.  The chair right in front of the window is a perfect place to curl up with a book. The accessories in the room and the plaid pattern and colors of the chair add a wonderful, traditional style.  The red and gold colors used throughout the room enrich the setting.

The hardwood floor is great and could be nicely topped with a pretty area rug in the center of the room that brings warmth into the room, incorporating the red and gold colors.  You could add curtains and have them draped for a grander element, highlighting the size of the windows.

Many of these design elements would be easy to incorporate into a home office so that it feels more like an English drawing room.
