Decorating a Bay Window

6249194_SBay windows are often highlights of a home’s description.  A living room with a bay window or walk out bay will often be mentioned when describing the home. Bay windows are nice architectural features in a home, but can often be difficult to decorate.  Because they bow out from the rest of the room, incorporating these areas into the overall room design can befuddle some homeowners.

Bay windows are sometimes left empty while the rest of the living room is fully decorated and furnished.  This not only makes the design feel unbalanced but calls attention to the bay in a not so good way.  Make sure to include the bay when laying out your room’s floor plan and overall design.

Placing a table in the bay window is a good place to begin. The beautiful antique table in this bay window in this living room looks a little lonely. While the table does fill the center of the bay, the rest of the space is left empty.  Two chairs flanking the table would turn the bay into a cozy conversation area away from the main seating area of the living room.

You can use furniture, curtains and area rugs to draw attention to this architectural feature.
